Set in a stunning coastal town in tropical South India comes a brand-new ITV drama The Good Karma Hospital starring a wealth of great acting talent including Amanda Redman (New Tricks), Amrita Acharia (Game of Thrones) and Neil Morrissey (Line of Duty). This heart-warming six-part series arrives on DVD and digital courtesy of RLJ Entertainment's Acorn label on 13th March 2017.
The Good Karma Hospital is a run-down but resourceful hospital, run by the wonderfully eccentric Lydia Fonseca (Redman). Held together by a hand-picked team of British and Indian medics, the Good Karma turns no-one away - locals, ex-pats and tourists are all welcome.
The series follows the lives and loves of the hardworking team, as they travel the red dirt roads to patients staying in five-star beach resorts or inland - through lush green jungles - to help local villagers. Back at the hospital, any story can walk through the door.
When junior doctor Ruby Walker (Acharia), arrives in India looking for a job and a distraction from the heartache of a broken relationship, she is prepared for the sun, sea and perfect setting, and even the sacred cows, the tuk-tuks and tummy troubles, but what she doesn't expect are the realities of work, life and even love at an over-worked, underfunded medical centre. But as Doctor Walker adjusts to life in India, she realises that the Good Karma Hospital is more than just a rundown medical outpost - it's the beating heart of the community, and home.
This life-affirming Indian-set medical drama mixes the heart-breaking with the humorous, and arrives on DVD in a two-disc set on 13 March 2017. It will also be available on digital - iTunes, Amazon and Google - the day after each episode airs on ITV.
