The Sailor Guardians face their greatest threat yet this December as Crunchyroll continues its UK Sailor Moon collection with Sailor Moon: Season 3, released as a five-disc Limited Edition Blu-ray SteelBook.

Following their victory over the Black Moon Clan, Usagi Tsukino and her friends have once again returned to their everyday lives, with the future apparently safe and peace restored to Tokyo. But it doesn't last for long.

Rei begins experiencing disturbing visions of an approaching apocalypse, while a series of mysterious attacks sees innocent people targeted by strange creatures known as Daimons. Behind the attacks is a new enemy - the Death Busters, a sinister organisation operating from the prestigious Mugen Academy under the leadership of Professor Souichi Tomoe. Their objective is to locate three special Pure Heart Crystals containing powerful Talismans which, when brought together, can summon the legendary Holy Grail.

With innocent lives increasingly under threat, Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus once again transform to defend the city. But this time they aren't fighting alone. Two mysterious new Sailor Guardians have appeared. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune are pursuing the same Talismans, but their methods are very different from those of Usagi and her friends.

Determined to prevent the catastrophe Rei has foreseen, the pair are prepared to make sacrifices that Sailor Moon cannot accept.

Behind their identities are Haruka Tenoh and Michiru Kaioh, two older students whose arrival considerably expands the world of the Sailor Guardians and introduces one of the series' most enduring relationships.

The return of Sailor Pluto further complicates matters as the search for the Talismans reveals a threat far greater than the Death Busters themselves. At the centre of the mystery is Hotaru Tomoe, the lonely daughter of Professor Tomoe who forms a close friendship with Chibiusa. Hotaru possesses extraordinary abilities she doesn't fully understand, but as the Death Busters move closer to their ultimate objective it becomes apparent that her destiny is intimately connected to the approaching destruction. That destiny eventually reveals another Sailor Guardian - Sailor Saturn - whose immense power carries consequences that even Uranus, Neptune and Pluto fear.

Originally broadcast in Japan between 1994 and 1995, Sailor Moon S comprises episodes 90 to 127 of the original Sailor Moon anime and represents the third major chapter in Naoko Takeuchi's story. The season significantly expands the mythology established during Sailor Moon R, introducing Sailor Uranus, Sailor Neptune and Sailor Saturn while bringing Sailor Pluto into a much more prominent role.

It also marks a noticeable shift in tone. Although the humour, friendships and romantic elements of the earlier seasons remain, Sailor Moon S explores darker themes surrounding sacrifice, destiny and the lengths to which the Guardians are prepared to go to save the world. The conflict between Usagi and the Outer Guardians consequently becomes as important as their battle against the Death Busters, with Sailor Moon's refusal to sacrifice innocent lives placing her idealism directly against Uranus and Neptune's more pragmatic approach. The season also further develops Chibiusa following her introduction in Sailor Moon R, with her friendship with Hotaru becoming central to the unfolding story.

Crunchyroll's forthcoming UK edition collects all 38 episodes of Season Three, episodes 90-127 of the original series, across five Blu-ray discs. The episodes are presented uncut in their original 4:3 aspect ratio, with viewers able to choose between the original Japanese soundtrack with English subtitles and the modern VIZ Media English-language dub. The Limited Edition SteelBook also continues the collectible presentation established by Crunchyroll's first two releases and includes an exclusive Season Three holographic art card.

The Sailor Moon: Season 3 Limited Edition SteelBook will be released as a five-disc Blu-ray on 28th December 2026 by Crunchyroll.
