Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back on 4K Ultra HD this December as James Cameron's science-fiction classic The Terminator receives a new Limited Edition SteelBook release from Amazon MGM Studios.

Los Angeles, 1984. Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) is an ordinary young woman working as a waitress and sharing an apartment with her friend Ginger. She has no idea that events taking place decades in the future have made her one of the most important people alive.

In the aftermath of a devastating nuclear war, an artificial intelligence known as Skynet has turned against humanity. Machines dominate the ruined world, but a human resistance led by John Connor has begun fighting back - and threatens to change the course of the war.

Unable to defeat Connor on the battlefield, the machines devise another solution. A cybernetic assassin known as a Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is sent back through time to 1984 with a single objective: find and kill Sarah Connor before she can give birth to the son who will eventually lead humanity's resistance.

But the humans have sent someone back too. Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), a soldier who has fought alongside John Connor in the future, arrives in Los Angeles with orders to find Sarah and keep her alive.

Initially unable to comprehend Reese's warnings, Sarah rapidly discovers the terrifying truth when the seemingly unstoppable Terminator begins hunting her across the city. Bullets barely slow it down. Injuries that would kill a human have almost no effect. It doesn't need to eat or sleep and, as Reese explains, it will never stop until Sarah is dead.

What follows is a relentless battle for survival as Sarah and Reese attempt to stay one step ahead of a machine whose mission could determine the future of the entire human race.

Released in 1984, The Terminator transformed a relatively modest science-fiction production into one of the defining films of the decade.

Directed by James Cameron from a screenplay written by Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd, the film combined science fiction, action, horror and time-travel with the relentless structure of a slasher movie, turning Schwarzenegger's largely emotionless killing machine into one of cinema's most recognisable characters.

Linda Hamilton stars as Sarah Connor, beginning the transformation of a seemingly ordinary young woman into the character who would become central to the franchise, while Michael Biehn plays future resistance fighter Kyle Reese. Paul Winfield and Lance Henriksen appear as LAPD detectives Ed Traxler and Hal Vukovich, with Rick Rossovich as Reese's future-war comrade Matt Buchanan.

The Terminator Limited Edition SteelBook will be released as a two-disc 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray edition in the UK on 21st December 2026 by Amazon MGM Studios.
