One of the year's most talked-about independent horror films is heading to UK physical media, as Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma arrives on Blu-ray and Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook on 14th December 2026 from MUBI.
Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, the filmmaker behind I Saw the TV Glow, this provocative and unconventional horror comedy combines the bloody traditions of summer-camp slashers with a darkly comic exploration of obsession, identity and the strange relationship between filmmakers and their audiences.
The story follows an enthusiastic young director (Hannah Einbinder) who is given the opportunity to revive the once-popular Camp Miasma slasher franchise after years of increasingly disappointing sequels.
Determined to restore the series to its former glory, she becomes fascinated with the original film's mysterious leading actress (Gillian Anderson), whose portrayal of the franchise's iconic final girl has achieved legendary status among horror fans. When the director seeks out the now-reclusive star, their encounter develops into an increasingly unsettling relationship, drawing both women into a surreal world where desire, violence and cinematic fantasy begin to collide.
Featuring an impressive ensemble that also includes Jack Haven, Patrick Fischler, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Dylan Baker and Arthur Conti, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma approaches the slasher genre from a distinctly unconventional perspective. Rather than simply revisiting the familiar formula of masked killers and unfortunate teenagers, Schoenbrun uses the world of a fictional horror franchise to examine fandom, artistic obsession and the powerful emotional connections audiences develop with cinema.
The result promises a blend of outrageous horror, uncomfortable humour and psychological drama that should appeal to viewers looking for something beyond the traditional slasher experience.
The film made its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, bringing Schoenbrun's distinctive filmmaking style to an international audience. Following the critical attention surrounding We're All Going to the World's Fair and I Saw the TV Glow, the director's latest feature has attracted considerable interest among independent horror enthusiasts. Its combination of provocative subject matter, genre experimentation and a cast led by Einbinder and Anderson has helped establish it as one of the year's more intriguing additions to contemporary horror cinema.
For its UK physical-media release, MUBI is offering a Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD SteelBook, featuring exclusive UK artwork and a selection of collectible material. The package includes a printed essay entitled I Like That Feeling by Zefyr Lisowski, a collectible poster and art cards, alongside supplementary features involving Jane Schoenbrun and Jack Haven.
