Die Hard 2

Details

John McClane is heading back into action this Christmas as Die Hard 2 makes its long-awaited 4K Ultra HD debut on 7th December 2026. The explosive 1990 sequel, starring Bruce Willis as the resourceful New York police detective, joins the original Die Hard and Die Hard with a Vengeance in a new collection of UK 4K Ultra HD SteelBook releases.

Set two years after the events of the original film, Die Hard 2 finds John McClane waiting at Washington Dulles International Airport for the arrival of his wife, Holly (Bonnie Bedelia). Unfortunately, another Christmas reunion is interrupted when a heavily armed group of mercenaries seizes control of the airport's communications and landing systems. With incoming aircraft unable to land safely and hundreds of passengers facing a potentially deadly situation, McClane once again becomes the unlikely obstacle standing between a ruthless criminal operation and catastrophe.

Directed by Renny Harlin, Die Hard 2 expands the scale of the original film, exchanging the confined corridors of Nakatomi Plaza for the sprawling terminals, runways and surrounding infrastructure of a major international airport. William Sadler delivers a menacing performance as Colonel Stuart, the leader of the mercenary operation, while Willis returns with the familiar combination of wisecracks, improvisation and increasingly desperate heroics. The sequel raises the stakes with elaborate action sequences, dangerous confrontations and a relentless race against time.

The forthcoming release marks the film's first appearance on 4K Ultra HD, offering fans and collectors an opportunity to revisit McClane's second adventure in the higher-resolution format. Presented as a collectible SteelBook, the edition forms part of a coordinated release of the first three Die Hard films, with Die Hard with a Vengeance also making its 4K debut.

More than 35 years after its original release, Die Hard 2 remains a memorable example of the large-scale Hollywood action sequel, delivering a bigger setting, spectacular set pieces and another particularly unfortunate Christmas for John McClane.

Die Hard 2 is released on 4K Ultra HD and 4K Ultra HD SteelBook on 7th December 2026 from Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
