One of the most famous storylines in Batman comic-book history finally receives a full animated adaptation as Batman: Knightfall Part 1 begins an ambitious three-part movie event from Warner Bros. Animation and DC.

Gotham City faces one of its greatest crises when the mysterious and immensely powerful Bane puts into motion a plan designed not simply to defeat Batman, but to completely break him.

Rather than confronting the Dark Knight directly, Bane destroys Arkham Asylum and releases its inmates onto the streets, leaving Batman faced with the exhausting task of tracking down some of Gotham's most dangerous criminals. As one familiar enemy after another emerges, Bruce Wayne is pushed increasingly close to his physical and mental limits.

But the chaos isn't random. Bane is watching from the sidelines, studying his opponent and patiently waiting for Batman to become sufficiently weakened before making his own move.

Based on DC's hugely influential *Knightfall* comic-book saga, originally published during the early 1990s, the story introduced Bane as an adversary capable of challenging Batman with intelligence and strategy as well as sheer physical strength. His carefully orchestrated campaign against the Caped Crusader would ultimately lead to one of the most memorable confrontations in Batman history.

The storyline also introduced Jean-Paul Valley, better known as Azrael, whose involvement becomes increasingly important as Bruce Wayne's ability to continue protecting Gotham is called into question.

Anson Mount, best known as Captain Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, provides the voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman, with Michael Mando taking on the role of Bane and Pablo Schreiber voicing Jean-Paul Valley/Azrael. voice cast also includes Jeff Bennett, Bruce Boxleitner, Jessica Camacho, David Dastmalchian, Jason Flemyng, Jack Griffo, Toks Olagundoye, Stephen Oyoung and Simon Templeman. The film is directed by Jeff Wamester, whose previous DC animation credits include Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, from a screenplay by Jeremy Adams.

Batman: Knightfall Part 1 will be released on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray 7th September 2026 from Warner Home Video.
