The Inbetweeners is a six-part series about four teenagers growing up in suburbia and is the first-ever original UK sitcom commission for E4. It's a world of futile crushes, sibling brawls, getting drunk too quickly, fancying the girl next door, casting aspersions on your friend's sexuality and riding roller coasters. It hits TV screens on E4 at 22.00 from May 1st before it gets its official release on DVD.
The show offers a comedic take on growing up in middle class suburbia - a world where teen pregnancies, drugs, knife fights and guns are less common than fancying your mate's mum. Will's (Simon Bird) parents have just divorced and he has unwillingly had to move area and change schools. He was previously at a private school, so has inherited some snobbish tendencies. He's now at a comprehensive school where he has had to make a new set of friends. His newly found peers, Simon (Joe Thomas), Jay (James Buckley) and Neil (Blake Harrison) are neither that cool and or that credible.
The show is written by comedy producer Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, a former Channel 4 comedy commissioning editor who script edited Peep Show and the BBC sketch show Ruddy Hell! It's Harry and Paul. Iain Morris is Executive Producer of Free Agents, a co-production between Bwark Productions and Big Talk Productions. Originally part of the 25th anniversary Comedy Showcase 2007, the show TX's later this year as a six part series. Iain and Damon have also written an episode of Flight of the Conchords. Music consultant for the series is Xfm DJ Marsha Shandur.
Featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpses from those involved in The Inbetweeners both behind and in front of the cameras, The Inbetweeners DVD extras offer a unique look into the making of the show. Ranging from exclusive audio commentary from the writers and cast, to video diaries from all four cast members, the-making-of documentary, behind-the-scenes footage and deleted scenes, there's a great chance to get a more in-depth perspective on the show and its characters.
