In directing Elegy, acclaimed Spanish director Isabel Coixet (My Life with Me, The Secret Life of Words) becomes the first female filmmaker to take on the celebrated and controversial work of Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Philip Roth. Her film also boasts a superb supporting cast including the iconic Deborah Harry (Hairspray, Videodrome), Dennis Hopper (TV's 24, Speed, True Romance, Easy Rider) and Peter Sarsgaard (Jarhead, Rendition).

Charismatic professor David Kepesh (Kingsley) glories in the pursuit of female students but never lets any woman get too close. But when gorgeous Consuela Castillo (Cruz) enters his classroom, his protective veneer dissolves. Even if Kepesh declares her body a perfect work of art, Consuela is more than an object of desire. She has a strong sense of herself and an emotional intensity that challenges his preconceptions. Kepesh's need for Consuela becomes an obsession, but ultimately his jealousy drives her away. Shattered, Kepesh immerses himself in work. Then, two years later, Consuela comes back into his life - with an urgent, desperate request that will change everything.
