Steven Spielberg's acclaimed science-fiction drama A.I. Artificial Intelligence is making its debut on 4K Ultra HD 14th December 2026 from Warner Home Video.

Arriving in time to celebrate its 25th anniversary, the release will be available as both a standard 4K UHD edition and a Limited Edition SteelBook, offering collectors a welcome opportunity to revisit one of Spielberg's most thought-provoking films.

Originally released in 2001, A.I. Artificial Intelligence stars Haley Joel Osment as David, a highly advanced robotic child programmed to experience unconditional love. When he is welcomed into the home of Monica Swinton (Frances O'Connor), David begins to develop a powerful emotional attachment to his new mother. However, changing circumstances leave him abandoned in a world that is far less accepting of artificial life than he imagined. Accompanied by Gigolo Joe (Jude Law), David embarks on an extraordinary journey in search of the mythical Blue Fairy, believing she can transform him into a real boy and reunite him with his mother.

The film has a particularly fascinating production history, having originally been developed by legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, who spent years exploring an adaptation of Brian Aldiss's short story Super-Toys Last All Summer Long.

Following Kubrick's death in 1999, Spielberg brought the project to the screen, combining Kubrick's fascination with technology and human behaviour with his own distinctive approach to emotional storytelling. Featuring impressive visual effects from Industrial Light & Magic and Stan Winston Studio, alongside a memorable score by John Williams, the film remains a visually ambitious and emotionally challenging exploration of artificial intelligence, humanity and the desire to be loved.

The forthcoming 4K UHD release will feature a substantial collection of archival supplementary material on the accompanying Blu-ray, including interviews with Spielberg, Osment and Law, behind-the-scenes documentaries, and featurettes exploring the film's groundbreaking visual effects.

Highlights include a visit to Stan Winston Studio featuring early footage of the creation of Teddy, interviews with the Industrial Light & Magic team, and a discussion with sound designer Gary Rydstrom at Skywalker Ranch. Storyboards, production artwork, photo galleries and theatrical trailers are also advertised.

With artificial intelligence now becoming an increasingly prominent part of everyday life, the film's exploration of consciousness, emotional attachment and the relationship between humans and machines feels more relevant than ever. Its arrival on 4K Ultra HD provides a fitting opportunity to rediscover a film that has continued to grow in reputation since its original release, while the Limited Edition SteelBook offers an additional attraction for physical-media collectors.
