Comedy favourite Mrs. Doubtfire is making the leap to 4K Ultra HD for the first time, with 20th Century Studios bringing Chris Columbus' much-loved 1993 film to the format in September.

Robin Williams stars as Daniel Hillard, a talented voice actor and devoted father whose impulsive behaviour contributes to the breakdown of his marriage to Miranda (Sally Field). When the resulting divorce leaves Daniel able to see his three children only once a week, he isn't prepared to simply accept being kept at arm's length.

Learning that Miranda intends to hire a housekeeper, Daniel comes up with an increasingly elaborate solution. With a little help from his make-up artist brother, he transforms himself into the elderly and impeccably respectable Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire and applies for the job himself.

Miranda is suitably impressed and Mrs. Doubtfire quickly becomes an indispensable part of the household, giving Daniel the opportunity to spend every day with his children without his former wife realising who is hiding underneath the wig, prosthetics and rather considerable amount of padding.

Maintaining two identities proves considerably more difficult than Daniel anticipated, however, particularly when Miranda begins seeing the charming Stuart Dunmeyer (Pierce Brosnan). With Daniel becoming increasingly jealous and his new alter ego becoming increasingly important to the family, keeping Mrs. Doubtfire's true identity hidden is only going to become more complicated.

Loosely based on Anne Fine's novel Alias Madame Doubtfire, the film proved an enormous box-office success and remains one of Robin Williams' most recognisable performances. The elaborate transformation also earned the film the Academy Award for Best Makeup.

The new release marks the film's first appearance on 4K Ultra HD, with the UHD presentation accompanied by a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

There's also plenty of supplementary material for fans to work through. The Cutting Room contains a selection of deleted, extended and alternate scenes, whilst From Man to Mrs. - The Evolution of Mrs. Doubtfire looks at the creation of Williams' memorable alter ego.

Aging Gracefully - A Look Back at Mrs. Doubtfire provides a retrospective on the film, while the Makeup Department explores the extensive make-up application required to transform Williams into Mrs. Doubtfire, together with photographs and make-up tests.

The disc also ventures into the Animation Studio for a conversation with legendary animator Chuck Jones, accompanied by an original pencil test and the completed animation sequence. The Improvisation of Mrs. Doubtfire takes a closer look at Williams' considerable talent for going off-script, while an original 1993 featurette, theatrical trailers, publicity stills and behind-the-scenes photographs round out the package.

Mrs. Doubtfire will be released on 4K Ultra HD in the UK on 28th September 2026 from Walt Disney Home Entertainment.
