One of the nation's best-loved shows, All Creatures Great & Small, is back just in time for Christmas with its eagerly awaited fifth season. Bringing joy and warmth into our living rooms when we need it most, fans can look forward to charming scenery, veterinary adventures and heartwarming moments from the familiar faces in Darrowby, Yorkshire.

Hailed by The Guardian as 'the comforting TV we all need', this endlessly charming and entertaining series is based on the popular novels and life of veterinary surgeon and writer James Herriot(aka James Alfred Wight OBE). It has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, consistently ranking as Channel 5's most popular show, with the most recent series drawing in the region of 4.5 million viewers.

The brand-new series picks up in the Spring of 1941. World War II is now underway and the war in Europe hangs in the shadows of the rolling hills and idyllic streets of Darrowby. Tristan (Callum Woodhouse - The Durrells) makes a welcome return from his service in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. He plans to surprise everyone, but his reveal won't be as straightforward as he'd hoped.

The Skeldale House family are adjusting to having young baby Jimmy around. While Helen (Rachel Shenton - Hollyoaks) gets to grips with motherhood, James (Nicholas Ralph - The Most Reluctant Convert) is posted at RAF Abingdon. Though they miss one another - between a baby and the war effort - they have plenty to keep them busy.

Meanwhile, Siegfried (Samuel West - Slow Horses, The Crown) is taking up the slack at the surgery, Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley - Deadwater Fell, In Bruges) and Helen are considering their contribution to the community and Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose - Slow Horses, Pennyworth) - now a part of the furniture - is eager to step up. Patricia Hodge (Miranda) also reprises her role as Mrs Pumphrey and pampered pooch Tricki Woo is up to the same old tricks.
