One of Britain's most acclaimed espionage dramas is finally heading to physical media, as Slow Horses: Season One prepares for its DVD and Blu-ray debut 16th November 2026 from Fifth Season.
Starring Gary Oldman as the brilliantly unpleasant MI5 veteran Jackson Lamb, the six-part Apple TV series combines gripping spy-thriller storytelling with sharp dialogue, dark humour and a wonderfully dysfunctional collection of intelligence operatives.
Based on the bestselling Slough House novels by Mick Herron, Slow Horses follows a group of disgraced British intelligence agents who have been banished to a neglected MI5 department after making career-damaging mistakes. Known as Slough House, the office is where failed spies are expected to spend their remaining careers performing tedious administrative duties under the supervision of Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), a dishevelled, foul-mouthed and seemingly indifferent intelligence veteran whose abrasive personality conceals a formidable understanding of the espionage world.
The opening season introduces River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), an ambitious young agent whose disastrous training exercise results in his reassignment to Slough House. Determined to prove that his career is far from over, River becomes entangled in a dangerous kidnapping investigation involving a group of extremists and a young British student. As the situation escalates, the supposedly incompetent agents find themselves drawn into a complex web of political manipulation, intelligence-service rivalries and deadly secrets that threatens to expose uncomfortable truths within MI5 itself.
Alongside Oldman and Lowden, the impressive ensemble includes Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner, a senior MI5 figure whose ambitions frequently bring her into conflict with Lamb, together with Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Olivia Cooke and Jonathan Pryce. Developed for television by Will Smith, the series successfully balances the tension and intrigue of a traditional spy thriller with the frustrations, personal failures and unexpected loyalties of its central characters.
Originally premiering on Apple TV+ in April 2022, the first season established Slow Horses as a distinctive addition to British television drama, earning widespread praise for its writing, performances and unusually grounded approach to espionage. Its success has since led to multiple subsequent seasons, with the series becoming a major part of Apple's original television catalogue.
