DS Jenn Townsend, Morecambe Police's Family Liaison Officer, is working late as usual when an arson attack is reported. She races to the scene to find horror unfolding for a broken family, the Metcalfs.

As they face an overwhelming loss, Jenn must gain their trust to help Manning and the MIU uncover the truth of what has happened. Back at home, Jenn's got troubles of her own as, along with Chris, she tries to get to grips with the realities of having a house full of teenagers and a blended family.

Episode Synopsis

Episode 1 - DS Jenn Townsend, Morecambe Police's Family Liaison Officer, is working late when an emergency call comes in. She races to the scene to find horror unfolding for a broken family, the Metcalfs. As they have to face their overwhelming loss, Jenn must gain their trust to help Manning and the MIU uncover the truth of what happened. Back at home, Jenn's got troubles of her own as, along with Chris, she tries to get to grips with the realities of having a house full of teenagers and a blended family.

Episode 2 - The Morecambe community rallies around the grieving Metcalf family. Jenn and the team find key evidence that all was not well in the Metcalf's home while Jenn's own homelife is causing sleepless nights and disagreements with Chris. Within the MIU, everyone is beginning to notice that something is amiss with Manning and the rumblings of cutbacks at work leave Jenn concerned about her future in Morecambe. An old informant of Clarkie's gives the team an unexpected lead as the secrets Dean would prefer to remain hidden are uncovered by the team. When the scrutiny of his marriage to Beth intensifies, Dean struggles to keep control and the cracks begin to show.

Episode 3 - The Metcalf kids struggle to cope with their loss while Dean surprises Jenn by pushing to return to work. Some CCTV evidence leads to a major development in the case while Chris and Erin's disagreements reach new heights leaving Jenn frustrated. Conor realises Maddie is in trouble at school and he makes an upsetting discovery. Meanwhile, at work, Karen and Jenn attempt to secure a new home for the Metcalf family when an unexpected arrival at a fundraising event causes old tensions to resurface.

Episode 4 - Dean is confronted with another life changing event, and unable to deal with his grief, he returns to work. With tensions running high, Jenn fears Dean will do something he regrets. Distracted by her work, Jenn fails to see the troubles her own children are facing. With the MIU now under pressure to solve multiple attacks on the Metcalf family, Manning persuades Jenn to keep a secret from the team in an attempt to stop his personal life becoming public. Conor meanwhile, takes matters into his own hands with Maddie. At the station, when a suspect they've been searching for hands himself in, it uncovers unexpected revelations for the case.

Episode 5 - An old case puts a stop to Dean's work plans and awakens insecurities for Manning, causing him to have second thoughts about his future in the force. The MIU is put under further pressure by the arrival of an assessor, from Divisional HQ, who puts their work practices under the microscope. As Dean's grief finally begins to show, Jenn and Karen discover evidence a key witness in the investigation lied about his alibi leaving them hurrying to track him down before it's too late. Chris feels like public enemy number one at home while Jenn's tensions with Jacqui escalate, but when trouble follows Jenn home, it leaves her whole family in danger.

Episode 6 - Jenn is determined to prove who attacked her family, she's forced to focus on the cases in hand. As Manning questions his future plans, knowing that whatever he decides will have huge consequences. Erin makes a life changing decision that upsets Chris, and as a prominent Morecambe family arouses suspicion over their quest for a business project, a surprising connection to another piece of evidence causes the missing pieces of the investigation to finally fall into place.
