The Vampire Diaries: Season 1 (2009)

Get your teeth into this year's television phenomenon, The Vampire Diaries: The Complete First Season, launching on DVD and Blu-ray on 23rd August 2010 from Warner Home Video.

Based on the best-selling book series by L.J. Smith, The Vampire Diaries is a new drama from Kevin Williamson (Scream,I Know What You Did Last Summer, Dawson's Creek), in which two vampire brothers Paul Wesley (Everwood) and Ian Somerhalder (Lost) are at war for the soul of a high school girl Nina Dobrev (Degrassi: The Next Generation) and those of her friends and family.

17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Dobrev) is the most popular girl in school. She's gorgeous, cool and utterly unattainable to the boys at Mystic Falls High. However, looks aren't everything and Elena has a troubled past. Dealing with the grief of losing both parents in a tragic accident, and adjusting to a new life living with her slightly cool but overwhelmed Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning), she's struggling to get herself together and focus on the new school term. Enter Stefan Salvadore (Wesley), the handsome and mysterious new student that is the fascination of all the girls in school, and soon the focus of all Elena's attentions.

What she doesn't know is that Stefan is hiding a dark, deadly secret - the small issue that he is a bloody thirsty vampire, and not the only one new in town!

Despite being a good vampire himself, Stefan has an older, evil brother, Damon (Somerhalder), who has far less honourable intentions and the two have a long and bitter history. The vampire brothers become transfixed on Elena, who is a double for the girl they both loved some 150 years earlier, and on her friends, family and all the residents of their small town. Watch out Mystic Falls... things are about to change forever in a spellbinding web of secrets, passion and terror!
