Details

Arguably the finest film to date from acclaimed writer-director Mike Hodges (responsible for works as diverse as Get Carter, Flash Gordon, Morons From Outer Space, A Prayer For The Dying and Croupier), Black Rainbow is an eerie supernatural thriller starring Rosanna Arquette (Crash; Pulp Fiction; After Hours; Desperately Seeking Susan), Oscar nominee Tom Hulce (Fearless; Parenthood; Amadeus) and double Oscar winner Jason Robards (Magnolia; Melvin And Howard; Julia; All The President's Men).

Fake medium Martha Travis (Arquette) and her alcoholic father, Walter (Robards), make their living travelling from town to town putting on spiritualist performances during which Martha delivers false messages of hope from the dead to their surviving loved ones. At one such performance, Martha gives a message to Mary Kuron from her husband, Tom. The problem is, Tom isn't dead. When Tom is killed exactly as Martha envisioned, the case attracts the attention of sceptical journalist Gary Wallace (Hulce), who discovers that Martha's premonition also revealed to her the identity of Tom Kuron's murderer. Gary's scepticism is put to the test when Martha again "channels" messages from the living relatives of a room full of people and an accident at a local nuclear power plant the following day brings about a shocking revelation. Meanwhile, Tom Kuron's killer has learned that Martha knows who he is.

Part supernatural chiller, part crime thriller, Black Rainbow is one of the most underrated genre films of the past 20 years and features an exceptional performance from Rosanna Arquette as a young woman haunted by disturbing and tragic visions of the future.

Black Rainbow will be released on DVD by Anchor Bay UK on 26th April 2004.
