Penned by 12 Years A Slave Oscar®-winning screenwriter John Ridley, recently lauded by The Guardian as 'the most important man in TV' and boasting an impeccable cast, Guerrilla is the hugely anticipated political drama which, following its run on Sky Atlantic, is set for its home entertainment release courtesy of Dazzler Media.
This sprawling, multi-layered tale of the nascent black power movement in the UK in the early 1970s, is co-executive-produced by and also stars Idris Elba (The Wire), alongside a stellar cast including Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), Babou Ceesay (Free Fire), Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Daniel Mays (Line of Duty), Nathanial Martello-White (Life Just Is), and Denise Gough (The Fall). A Sky Original Production made in association with Showtime, this six-part drama comes to UK DVD and Blu-ray for the first time on 19th June 2017.
The story follows the growth of the black power movement in early 1970s Britain, a place where racism was commonplace on the streets and within institutions, where the National Front roamed the inner cities and the police were suspicious of all political activists.
Set against the evocative backdrop of 1970s London, Guerrilla follows two young activists Jas (Pinto) and Marcus (Ceesay) involved in the capital's Black Power movement. Their relationship falls under intense pressure when they clash with racist police. This fictional exploration of a thought-provoking moment in history asks what might have happened if Black Power groups in the UK had turned to violence in their fight for equal rights.
Earning critical acclaim on transmission, this powerful drama looks at an important time in black history and still carries weight and relevance today.
