Z Cars is the groundbreaking cop show that took police drama to a new level with its gritty realism. Acorn Media is delighted to bring this cult classic to DVD for the first time ever on 2nd September 2013.
Writer Troy Kennedy Martin, believed that the genre needed 'an injection of energy and bite' and that's what Z Cars had in droves. Making its TV debut on the BBC in 1962, it went on to become one of the longest running British TV shows airing until 1978 and now Z Cars Collection One hits DVD as a two-disc set on 2nd September 2013.
Set in Newtown, a fictional town to the North of Liverpool, it captures a time when coppers were leaving the beat for fast-paced response vehicles and stars James Ellis (Re-Animator, Priest) as Sergeant Lynch who played this character throughout the entire run of the show, alongside John Slater (Passport To Pimlico, The Flanagan Boy), Ian Cullen (Dawn of the Dragonslayer, Family Affairs), Douglas Fielding (EastEnders, Holding On), Gary Watson (The Three Musketeers, Doctor Who) and Geoffrey Whitehead (Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, Second Thoughts).
Z Cars was innovative in reflecting a changing and challenging time for the police.
The first available colour episodes from 1972 make up this brilliant first collection, that captures some of the characters and crimes that shaped the long-ago decade of old-school policing, when the concept of a crime family was up to three generations of burglars, shoplifters and smash-and-grabbers. Z Cars Collection One includes six episodes: Loyalties, Breakage, Relative Values, Connor, Not Good Enough and Team
So sit back and buckle-up as we let the criminal underworld of Newtown know that Z Cars are on the way.
