Inkheart (2008)
Tuesday 17th March 2009
Based on the number one best-selling book by Cornelia Funke and featuring an all-star-cast, Inkheart is a thrilling family adventure set in a world that bridges the real and the fantasy. Having taken nearly £4 million at the UK box office, this magical production will be released by Entertainment In Video on rental on 6th April 2009. Retail and Blu-ray will follow on 13th April.
Inkheart boasts a superb cast headed by Brendan Fraser (The Mummy franchise, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Blast From the Past) and young newcomer Eliza Bennett (Nanny McPhee).
This visual extravaganza also stars an array of veteran talent including Paul Bettany (The Young Victoria, Iron Man, The Da Vinci Code, Life is Beautiful), Oscar® winner Helen Mirren (The Queen, Gosford Park, TV's Prime Suspect), Oscar® winner Jim Broadbent (The Young Victoria, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Hot Fuzz), Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong) and Sienna Guillory (Eragon, Love Actually). The film is directed by Iain Softley (The Skeleton Key, K-PAX, Hackers) from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsey-Abaire (Robots).
Mo Folchart (Brendan Fraser) and his 12-year-old daughter, Meggie (Eliza Hope Bennett), share an extraordinary gift for bringing characters to life when they read aloud. But their gift can be dangerous: when a character from a book appears, a real person disappears into its pages.
On a trip to a second-hand book shop, Mo hears familiar voices. And when he finds where they're coming from, he is stunned. It's Inkheart, a book he's been searching for since his wife, Resa (Sienna Guillory), vanished into its mystical world. But Mo's plan to use the book to find and rescue Resa is thwarted when Capricorn (Andy Serkis), the evil villain of Inkheart, kidnaps Meggie and demands that she bring to life his most powerful ally - The Shadow. In desperation, Mo assembles a small group of allies - some from the real world, some from the pages of books - and embarks on a daring and perilous journey to set things right.
