Romance And Rejection (1997)

A classic British romantic comedy in the tradition of Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill and Love Actually, Romance And Rejection, released on DVD by Scanbox Entertainment on 17th March 2008, stars Reece Dinsdale (The Chase), John Hannah (The Last Legion), Victoria Smurfit (Trial & Retribution), Frank Finlay (Life Begins), Susannah York (The Gigolos), Clara Bellar (A.I.) and Maryam d'Abo (L'enfer) in a light hearted look at the ups and downs encountered by those in pursuit of love.

Thirty-something Mike (Dinsdale) is a broke but talented composer who dreams of writing symphonies but in reality is forced to make a living knocking out jingles for commercials. Although still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend, Helen (Smurfit), he is desperately in search of the one true love that will bring him the happiness he yearns for. The question is, how to find it in a modern world that is seemingly packed with flakes and neurotics, especially when your insecurities tend to make you jealous and mad even when a hot date strokes your cat.

Reluctantly, he seeks advice from his blustery, alcoholic father (Finlay) who has had writer's block since Mike's mother (York) left him 35 years ago. His father's advice is simple: the only thing that could make life worth living is perfect sex that goes on for days with a woman so beautiful you could cry. But Mike is looking for a love that will last forever, not just sex that lasts for days.

When two beautiful women unexpectedly enter his life Mike suddenly has a chance of realising his dream. First, though, he needs to deal with his unfulfilling job, his insecurities and his mother's abandonment.
