The Favourite, released on DVD and Blu-ray 13th May 2019 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, is a bawdy, acerbic tale of royal intrigue, passion, envy and betrayal in the court of Queen Anne in early 18th century England.
Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Golden Globe® and Oscar® Winner Oliva Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Academy Award® Winner Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Academy Award® Winner Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots.
As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen's companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.
The Favourite has been one of the most critically-acclaimed films of the year. It has received numerous awards including The Venice Film Festivals' Grand Special Jury Prize for Director Yorgos Lanthimos, 10 wins at the British Independent Film Awards, selected as AFI's 2018 Movie of the Year and a Golden Globe® for Olivia Colman's performance as Queen Anne. The film won the Academy Award® Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role (Olivia Colman) and nabbed 9 other Academy Award® nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Screenplay.
The Favourite is released on DVD and Blu-ray 13th May 2019 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
