Peter Jackson's haunting supernatural drama The Lovely Bones is making its way to 4K Ultra HD this November, bringing his adaptation of Alice Sebold's best-selling novel to the format for the first time in the UK.

Saoirse Ronan stars as Susie Salmon, a 14-year-old girl whose seemingly ordinary life is brought to a sudden and tragic end when she is murdered. Rather than leaving her family behind, however, Susie finds herself watching over them from a strange and beautiful world somewhere between life and death.

As Susie struggles to come to terms with what has happened to her, those she has left behind must deal with their grief in very different ways. Her father, Jack, becomes increasingly determined to discover the identity of his daughter's killer, while the rest of the Salmon family attempts to hold together in the aftermath of her death.

From her extraordinary new surroundings, Susie remains connected to the people she loves and watches as suspicion begins to fall upon someone much closer to home. Torn between her desire for justice and her need to let go of the life she has lost, she must find a way to help protect her family before she can finally move on.

Directed by Peter Jackson, The Lovely Bones was adapted for the screen by Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. The film features an impressive cast headed by Saoirse Ronan, alongside Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Michael Imperioli and Stanley Tucci. Tucci's unsettling performance as George Harvey earned him Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for Best Supporting Actor.

Originally released in 2009, the film combines family drama, murder mystery and fantasy, with Jackson using the shifting landscapes of Susie's afterlife to provide a striking contrast to the increasingly desperate search taking place in the real world.

The release pairs the film on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, with the package also including the extensive behind-the-scenes production material previously produced for the film.

The Lovely Bones is released on dual-format 4K UHD and Blu-ray on 9th November 2026 from Paramount Home Entertainment.
