Long before Michael Moore became a household name and proved that documentaries could rival the best fictional output Hollywood had to offer, the UK's very own Nick Broomfield was already blazing a pioneering trail, directing a series of interesting, informative, extremely funny and highly entertaining documentary films. Often courting controversy along the way, with his distinctive and inimitable style Broomfield almost single-handedly established the documentary as an acceptable and popular form of mainstream entertainment.

Now Metrodome is proud to present the six-film DVD boxed set, Nick Broomfield: Documenting Icons, featuring some of the highlights of Nick Broomfield's astonishing and varied career, including the BAFTA Award winning Soldier Girls, Chicken Ranch, The Leader, Tracking Down Maggie, Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Madam and Fetishes. Put together under the supervision of Nick Broomfield himself, this unique collection comes laden with exclusive extra material, including previously unseen new and archival footage from Nick's own archive.

The version of Fetishes contained in the boxed set is the director's cut containing reinstated footage newly passed by the BBFC. Fetishes will also be released individually as a Special Edition DVD, complete with special "Fetish" packaging, on 7th March 2005, featuring an additional 47 minutes of exclusive extra material newly edited by Nick Broomfield especially for the release and 10 minutes of footage previously cut by the BBFC.

An instantly recognisable, headphone-wearing, boom-mic-toting figure, Broomfield's dogged pursuit of the likes of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (Tracking Down Maggie) and South African white supremacist Eugene Terreblanche (The Leader) made for unforgettable television. Likewise, Broomfield's remarkably close relationship with his subject while working on Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Madam became almost as scandalous and controversial as the exploits of Ms. Fleiss and her unsavoury associates. 

Equally memorable are his documentary excursions into the Chicken Ranch - a notorious legalised brothel in Nevada - and, for Fetishes, into the world of New York's most famous S&M parlour, Pandora's Box, which proved to be a surprisingly edifying experience for both the filmmaker and his audience. Confirming his status as a serious documentarian, Soldier Girls, Broomfield's insightful look at the rigorous and riotous bootcamp induction of a group of female recruits into the US Army, earned him a BAFTA Award.

The six-disc special edition DVD boxed set, Nick Broomfield: Documenting Icons will be released on DVD by Metrodome on 7th March 2005.
