Details

Featuring a terrific ensemble cast including Robin Williams (Insomnia), Holly Hunter (O Brother, Where Art Thou?), Giovanni Ribisi (Lost In Translation), Alison Lohman (Big Fish) and Woody Harrelson (North Country), The Big White is a big hearted black comedy set in a snow covered Alaska and will be available to buy on DVD from 7th August 2006 from Cinema Club.

Paul Barnell (Robin Williams) is a down on his luck, mild mannered travel agent on the brink of destitution. No one has walked into his shop for years. His wife (Holly Hunter) needs serious medical attention for Tourette's syndrome and he wants to get her the best treatment available.

There is a potential cash resource in the shape of his missing brother Raymond's (Woody Harrelson) life insurance policy. But when Paul tries to cash in on the policy, he comes face to face with Ted Watters (Giovanni Ribisi), a tough young insurance investigator facing an early mid-life crisis. To Paul's frustration, Ted refuses to honour the policy, despite the fact that Raymond has been missing presumed dead for five years.

When Paul accidentally discovers a corpse that two local hit men have disposed of in a wheelie bin just outside the travel agency, he suddenly sees a chance to get his wife the help she needs. He throws the body off a cliff, covers the face in fried bacon, identifies the chewed-up remains as his brother and demands the million dollar insurance payout.

But although the police are satisfied with the identification of the body, several people make his dodgy claim all the more difficult. Insurance investigator Ted Watters instantly smells a rat, and it doesn't take long before the killers, intent on finding the body they accidentally dumped, appear upon the scene. But worst of all, Paul's brother Raymond, having heard of the wheeze, returns home to claim his part of his own payout.

A delightfully dark comedy about dysfunctional relationships and desperate measures, The Big White is directed by Mark Mylod whose previous credits include Shameless, Cold Feet, The Royle Family and Ali G Indahouse.
