Dad's Army (2015)
Friday 22nd April 2016
Keep calm - unlike this barmy lot who think "we're doomed" - because Dad's Army is released on DVD and Blu-ray just in time for Father's Day. So instead of "Keeping Mum", why not get dad this new take on a beloved classic, available from 13th June 2016, courtesy of Universal Pictures (UK).
The British comedy is re-imagined with an all-star British ensemble cast including; Toby Jones (Captain America) who takes the lead as Captain Mainwaring; Bill Nighy (Love Actually) rallies the troops as Sergeant Wilson; Michael Gambon (Fortitude) reprises loveable, albeit doddery Private Godrey; and Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago) makes a stunning appearance as Associated Press journalist, Rose Winters.
Supporting this ensemble, Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) is Colonel Theakes; Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners) is fresh-faced Corporal Pike; Daniel Mays (Made In Dagenham) is black-market dealer Private Walker; Bill Paterson (Miss Potter) is the Scottish cynic Private Frazer; Tom Courtenay (45 Years) is jumpy Corporal Jones; Sarah Lancashire (Happy Valley) is Mrs. Pike; and Alison Steadman (Gavin and Stacey) is Mrs. Fox and completes this cast of comedic talent.
It's May, 1944 and as the Allied armies massed in the British Isles prepare to invade Occupied Europe and strike a mighty blow against Hitler's Reich, a heavy responsibility falls on the men of Walmington-on-Sea's Home Guard platoon. They must prevent a Nazi spy discovering the Allies' deliberate campaign of misinformation - Operation Bodyguard - whilst also helping to uncover a spy within their midst.
Things don't quite run smoothly however, as glamorous journalist Rose Winters (Zeta-Jones) charms and disarms the men. Mishaps, mayhem and (Prime) Minister madness ensues, and as the clock to D-Day ticks down, can Captain Mainwaring (Jones), Sergeant Wilson (Nighy) and their eager but ragtag unit prevent total catastrophe befalling the Allies' war effort?
Keep up with the Old Boys as Dad's Army marches onto DVD and Blu-ray from 13th June 2016 courtesy of Universal Pictures (UK).
