Hollywood mega-star Will Smith slam-dunks into DVD action courtesy of Warner Home Video on 21st February 2005 in the show that launched him towards screen stardom. The irrepressible rapping, dancing, wise-cracking entertainment sensation plays himself in the first season of the hugely popular TV comedy series The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air.
Fresh out of his hood in Philly, Will's vibrant, larger than life personality causes chaos when he arrives in the orderly, middle-class Banks household. With plenty of laughs, great music and an endless supply of tricky situations to extricate himself from the hip-hop homeboy is in full effect!
A worldwide entertainment sensation, Will Smith's career began as a rapper in his home town of Philadelphia with friend Jazzy Jeff. Together they racked up a series of hits and Grammy Awards for tracks including Parents Just Don't Understand, Summertime and Boom Shake The Room. Success led to a move to California and in 1990 NBC commissioned a pilot for a show based on Will's life in Los Angeles: the Fresh Prince was born. The show would last for six seasons and would provide Will with two Golden Globe nominations and the chance to move into movies - the hard-hitting Bad Boys was followed by box-office successes Independence Day and Men In Black and finally an Oscar nomination for his acclaimed performance in Ali.
Containing all 25 episodes from the original season first screened in 1991, The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air DVD features the familiar characters that can still be seen on the show's BBC2 evening slot - well meaning but inept Carlton, pompous Uncle Phil and the king of the innocent putdown, hilarious English butler Geoffrey. Season 1 also includes big-name guest appearances from Naomi Campbell, Quincy Jones, Queen Latifah and Bo Jackson.
Will's Aunt Vivian (Janet Hubert-Whitten) and Uncle Philip (James Avery) live a comfortable and sophisticated life with their children Carlton (Alfonso Ribeiro) Hilary (Karyn Parsons) and Ashley (Tatyana Ali) in Bel Air. Living in a huge mansion complete with a pool, tennis courts and a dignified English butler (Joseph Marcell), the Banks' are not prepared for the craziness Will brings to their lives. He was sent to California in the hope that his relatives will straighten him out and teach him some good old-fashioned values, but as he charms, disarms and alarms the whole family with his streetwise ways Will soon takes his rightful place as The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air.
