Paramount celebrates sixty years of one of television's most influential science-fiction series with the release of Star Trek: The Original Series - 60th Anniversary Collector's Edition on Blu-ray.

On 8th September 1966, American television audiences were introduced to the crew of the USS Enterprise and a five-year mission that would ultimately last considerably longer than anyone involved could possibly have imagined. Led by Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), the Enterprise and its crew travelled beyond the boundaries of known space in search of new worlds, new civilisations and answers to some of humanity's oldest questions.

Alongside Kirk was Leonard Nimoy as the half-human, half-Vulcan science officer Spock, whose devotion to logic frequently placed him at odds with the decidedly more emotional Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley). Their contrasting personalities created the relationship at the heart of the series, but the Enterprise was very much an ensemble.

James Doohan played chief engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, Nichelle Nichols was communications officer Nyota Uhura, George Takei took the helm as Hikaru Sulu and Walter Koenig joined the crew during the second season as Pavel Chekov.

To mark its 60th anniversary, Paramount has brought all three seasons of Star Trek: The Original Series together in a new 20-disc Blu-ray Collector's Edition. All 79 episodes are included using the series' previously remastered high-definition presentations.

The restoration project originally returned to the surviving film elements to bring Star Trek into the HD era, while many of the programme's optical effects, planets and exterior Enterprise shots were recreated using modern visual effects. Viewers can choose between the enhanced presentations and the programme's original visual effects, making it possible to experience the episodes either in their updated form or much closer to the way audiences originally saw them.

The English soundtrack is available in DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1, while the original mono audio is also retained.

The set contains nine Limited Edition lobby cards together with an exclusive 4-inch vinyl record featuring the original theme music from all three seasons.
