A multi-award winner at the 1966 Berlin International Film Festival, Masculin Féminin comes to DVD digitally remastered from a restored print and complete with an exclusive bonus collector's booklet, "Key Scenes and Dialogue – Jean-Luc Godard".

Regarded as one of the most successful and thought-provoking directors of the modern era, Godard has produced countless cinematic classics including Breathless, A Woman Is A Woman, Weekend, Vivre Sa Vie, Two Or Three Things I Know About Her, Alphaville and Masculin Feminin.

Godard's seventh feature, Masculin Féminin stars award-winning actor Jean-Pierre Léaud (The Pornographer; Ira Vep; Day For Night; Last Tango In Paris), the hugely popular French recording artist Chantal Goya and an uncredited Brigitte Bardot (And God Created Woman) and is set against a background of an edgy France gripped by political upheaval, the Vietnam war and an election year in which De Gaulle kept his grip on power, much to the frustration of the disgruntled Left.

Structuring the film around 15 scenes of varying lengths, Godard takes the deceptively simple story of the relationship between an ex-army recruit, Paul (Jean-Pierre Léaud), and aspiring pop singer, Madeleine (Chantal Goya), and uses it to impart his own complex philosophy of the world.

Despite its complexity, Masculin Féminin is also extremely accessible and is often regarded as the perfect Godard film, presenting a provocative and funny examination of the attitudes of the emerging youth culture during the height of the Vietnam war and amid a political climate of which Godard was a part.

Masculin Féminin is released on DVD by Nouveaux Pictures from 14th March 2005.
