Rich Hall with Special Guests Otis Lee Crenshaw and the Honky Tonk A**holes (2009)
Sunday 18th October 2009
Award winning comedian Rich Hall releases his hotly anticipated new DVD, Rich Hall with Special Guests Otis Lee Crenshaw and the Honky Tonk A**holes - "Hell No I Ain't Happy", on 23rd November 2009 courtesy of Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd. Recorded live from the world famous Hammersmith Apollo, viewers are treated to two shows in one as comedy's finest Rich Hall performs his own stand up for the first half of the show, making way for his red-neck alter-ego Otis Lee Crenshaw and his band for the second half.
Star of BBC1's Live at the Apollo, BBC4's Rich Hall's Cattle Drive, Rich Hall's Fishing Show and How the West was Lost, Rich has been performing for audiences in his renowned grouchy, deadpan style for long enough to establish him as a comic genius, master of absurdist irony and king of rapid-fire wit. Fans can see the legend from Montana sink his cynical teeth in to a variety of topics including the economy, global warming, the departure of George W Bush as president( "One of comedy's greatest losses") and why he loves living amongst the doom and gloom of Britain ("I go where the misery is").
Rich's white trash alter ego Otis Lee Crenshaw and his band the Honky Tony A**holes take to the stage for the second half of the show. Otis performs bourbon-soaked, Tom Waitsian tunes laden with tales of redneck living and blends this with audience banter, producing a perfect fusion of music and comedy. Premiering on DVD for the very first time, the band will be performing classics such as Do Anything you want to the Girl (Just Don't Hurt Me), White Trash State of Mind and Bag Lady amongst others with their usual characteristic hillbilly charm.
Since he 'gave birth' to Otis Lee Crenshaw in 1998, Rich has been performing to sell-out audiences each year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, throughout the UK (on tour) and at comedy festivals worldwide. His impressive award accolades include a Perrier Award, a Time Out Comedy Award and two Emmy® Awards for the Late Show with David Letterman. Although an undeniable king of the comedy stage, Rich has also become well known for his television and radio work. Notable UK appearances include regular appearances on QI (BBC1/2), Live at the Apollo (BBC1), Have I Got News For You (BBC1) Otis Less Crenshaw - London Not Tennessee (BBC2), and Never Mind The Buzzcocks (BBC2).
Other strings to his bow include writer for the David Letterman Show (CBS) and as the inspiration behind Matt Groening's character Moe Szyslak from The Simpsons. Also an accomplished author, Rich's latest book Magnificent Bastards (Abacus) was released July 2nd. His two previous books published by Abacus are titled I Blame Society and Things Snowballs.
