From cult director Allan Moyle (Empire Records; Pump Up The Volume) and writer Willem Wennekers comes Weirdsville, released on DVD by Contender Home Entertainment on 10th March 2008, a seriously stoned journey through a crazy Canadian night in the company of two amiable losers caught up in a sequence of increasingly absurd and hilarious circumstances.
Scott Speedman (Underworld: Evolution; My Life Without Me) and Wes Bentley (Ghost Rider; American Beauty) star as Dexter and Royce, a pair of twenty-something stoners who on discovering their friend Matilda (singer-songwriter and star of Hustle & Flow, Taryn Manning) has overdosed on a stolen stash of drugs decide that burying her body beneath the local disused drive-in cinema would be a much better idea than contacting the police.
Unfortunately, their inept efforts at disposing of Mattie interrupt a bunch of equally incompetent Satan worshipping preppies who are in the middle of performing a ritual sacrifice. As their ill-conceived plans begin to spiral out of control, Royce and Dex find themselves on the run from the bungling Satanists, a vengeful drug dealer and a gang of vertically challenged medieval knights.
Fortuitously, there is a bright side to their predicament: Mattie's not really dead and together the trio has concocted a brand new plan to get themselves out of their ever-deepening hole - a daring heist at the home of a hippy millionaire that involves more than a little bit of help from a garden gnome. Welcome to Weirdsville. It's not just a place; it's a state of mind.
Allan Moyle's latest foray into cinema cult-dom is assuredly cool, wickedly funny and, like his previous movies, boasts a terrific scene-setting soundtrack by a collection of established and up-and-coming indie artists.
A huge success at the 2007 Edinburgh, Slamdance and Raindance Film Festivals, and critically acclaimed during its UK theatrical release Weirdsville is destined to be one of the most highly anticipated comedy DVD releases of the year.
