Network is delighted to announce the release of two must-have titles for all Tommy Cooper, and indeed, all fans of quality comedy shows. This celebration of Tommy Cooper's enduring appeal combines the three classic Thames Television Tommy Cooper made for ITV in the 70s: The Tommy Cooper Hour, Tommy Cooper - Just Like That and Cooper. The Tommy Cooper Collection (PG) is released as a 5 - disc set on 29th September 2008. It will be released the same day as Cooper.
Tommy Cooper is known not simply for his hilarious, frequently failing magic tricks (despite being an accomplished magician in real life) and rapid-firing sense of humour; he is also well-loved among fellow comedians. That is a fact most noted when he was voted the sixth greatest comedy act ever by fellow comedians and comedy insiders in Comedians' Comedian, Channel 4, 2005. For four decades, he was a constant and always eagerly anticipated presence on television.
At six-foot three in height and with his trademark fez, he is instantly recognisable; his show is joyfully chaotic. Apart from the lame jokes and the failed magic tricks, this legendary comedy star is also famed for his Houdini-esque death-defying attempt to escape from an air-tight trunk and various other outrageous, near-insane but always uproarious physical tricks and sets. A number of stars have also lent their hands and reputations to spice up the mayhem, and to assist in the "magic tricks". Among the luminaries are Sheila Bernette, Victor Spinetti, Ian Hendry and Dandy Nichols.
This is a definitive set, offering the viewers and fans of comedy a chance to watch the jesting maestro at his best.
