Summer is finally here and Hugh Fearnley-Whitingstall is back at the River Cottage HQ to celebrate the very best food the summer season has to offer, with River Cottage Summer's Here out to own on DVD from1st August 2011 from 4DVD.
As always, Hugh rustles up a range of impressive dishes using the finest edible delights from the garden, the hedgerow, the river and the stream. From the first crop of peas to some barbecue favourites, Hugh's garden delicacies are washed down with lashings of homemade gorse flower wine.
Following on from the launch of the nationwide Landshare initiative, Hugh uncovers some of the groundbreaking stories which have connected those who have land to share with those who need land for cultivating food. He also explores contentious issue surrounding the raising and eating of veal in Britain by visiting a local farm that produces welfare friendly veal animals.
But it's not all work and no play!
This new DVD release celebrates the nation's favourite summer fruit, the strawberry, with a 500-person summer fete. In preparation, Hugh and the River Cottage gardeners plant strawberries in every possible space including wine boxes and even wellington boots! Hugh and his team get experimental with a range of strawberry themed recipes including, strawberries and gherkins, strawberries and mushrooms and even strawberries with salad cream. As the summer temperature heats up, Hugh takes time out from the kitchen and heads to the beach for some shrimping and also spends an evening fishing for trout amongst the beautiful landscape.
