When widowed Coast Guard Admiral Frank Beardsley (Quaid) runs into his high school sweetheart, the beautiful Helen North (Russo), a handbag designer and a widow herself, they fall head over heels and tie the knot. However, Frank's well-regimented family troop and Helen's free-spirited brood are less than happy with their new siblings. The cantankerous children can only agree on one thing - they have to work together to split their parents up!
