Details

Marking the first on-screen pairing of real-life couple Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick in 20 years, The Best You Can explores the intoxicating pull of connection when two strangers' worlds collide.

Cynthia Rand (Sedgwick) is a meticulous urologist with a life built on order, routine, and the steady brilliance of her Watergate-veteran husband Warren (Judd Hirsch), who finds her world quietly tilting as Warren slips into the early fog of dementia. Across the river, Stan Olszewski (Bacon), a bright but underachieving security guard, coasts through his days, nursing regret and dodging ambition.

Their lives intersect one night when Stan disrupts a break-in at Cynthia's Brooklyn home; an act of chance that sparks an unexpected tether between two people who didn't know they were lonely. As Cynthia grapples with the unravelling of the life she built, and Stan confronts the one he's avoided building at all, their friendship drifts towards something neither anticipated. Tender and quietly subversive, The Best You Can asks the question: what is the cost of admitting you might want more?

The Best You Can stars Kevin Bacon (Footloose, A Few Good Men), Kyra Sedgwick (Born on the Fourth of July, Singles), Judd Hirsch (Ordinary People, Independence Day), Brittany O'Grady (The White Lotus, Black Christmas) and Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond, Ice Age). It's produced by Victoria Hill, Andrew Mann, Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick and Michael J. Weithorn.

Synopsis

Cynthia Rand (Kyra Sedgwick), a buttoned-up New York City urologist married to a brilliant Watergate prosecutor, Warren Rand (Judd Hirsch), 25 years her senior, has her neatly ordered world turned upside down when he begins to slide into dementia. Stan Olszewski (Kevin Bacon), a sharp but chronically underachieving security guard, drifts through life without much direction, his current goal to find connection with his alienated 20- something daughter Sammi (Brittany O'Grady).

Their worlds collide when Stan thwarts a robbery at Cynthia's stately Brooklyn home. What begins as a chance encounter quickly evolves into an unconventional but deep friendship, built on late-night texts, candid confessions, and irreverent humor. As their bond grows their relationship veers into an unexpected romantic entanglement, upending their lives and forcing them to reconsider what they truly want and what they might be missing.

Written and directed by Michael J. Weithorn, The Best You Can is available to download 23rd December 2025 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
