In September 1944 after the success of the Normandy invasion the allies launched one of the most ambitious military operations ever mounted, Operation Market Garden. The operation involved dropping thousands of paratroopers in Holland to secure key bridges over the Rhine. The allied command planned to bring an early end to the war by invading Germany and destroying the Reich's war plants.
A Bridge Too Far re-creates in stunning detail one of the most disastrous battles of World War II. Through a combination of faulty intelligence, poor weather and even worse luck the operation led to disaster.
Featuring fantastic cinematography and moving performances from the stellar cast A Bridge Too Far won BAFTA's for Best Cinematography, Best Soundtrack and Best Supporting Actor (Edward Fox).
