Details

Swedish detective Jonas Engström (Stellan Skarsgård), travels to a small town above the Arctic Circle to investigate the brutal murder of a teenage girl. Alongside his partner, he quickly identifies a suspect - a reclusive writer - but the case becomes far more complicated during a botched surveillance operation in the dense, fog-covered wilderness.

In the confusion, Engström accidentally shoots and kills his own partner. Rather than confess, he chooses to cover up the incident, allowing suspicion to fall elsewhere. As the investigation continues, the prime suspect (Sverre Anker Ousdal) begins to manipulate Engström, aware of what really happened and using it as leverage.

Plagued by guilt and unable to escape the relentless daylight of the Arctic summer, Engström descends into a state of psychological unraveling. His insomnia worsens, blurring the line between truth and deception, and pushing him toward a breaking point where justice, morality, and self-preservation collide.

With a new 4K restoration with Dolby Vision, Insomnia is released on Blu-ray, 4K UHD and Limited Edition 4K UHD 25th May 2026 from Second Sight Films.
