A powerful family drama based on the best-selling novel by Kim Edwards and starring Emily Watson, The Memory Keeper's Daughter is available to buy and rent on DVD from 1st December 2008, courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
On a bitter winter's night in 1964 Dr David Henry (Dermot Mulroney, The Family Stone, My Best Friend's Wedding) rushes his pregnant wife Norah (Gretchen Mol, 3:10 to Yuma, The Notorious Bettie Page) to the hospital. Dr. Henry discovers that his wife is carrying twins and helps her deliver a boy and a baby girl named Phoebe.
Shortly after Phoebe's birth, he finds that she has Down's Syndrome and believes that she won't live very long. He therefore makes the hard decision to hand the baby over to Nurse Caroline, explaining that the death of his ill sister nearly destroyed his mother and he doesn't want Norah to go through that. Instead he tells Norah that their baby girl was stillborn.
Nurse Caroline (Emily Watson, The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep, Gosford Park, Angela's Ashes) decides to raise little Phoebe as her own and the two families develop ignorant of their connection to each other.
