Details
Based on Virginia C. Andrews' phenomenally successful novel of the same name Flowers In The Attic, released on DVD by Anchor Bay UK on 14th February 2005, stars Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest), Kristy Swanson (Buffy The Vampire Slayer; Dude, Where's My Car; Big Daddy) and Victoria Tennant (L.A. Story; The Handmaid's Tale) in a sinister, neo-Gothic tale of brutal cruelty, forbidden passion and murder.
Left fatherless and penniless by a sudden, tragic accident, Cathy, Chris, Cory and Carrie, along with their widowed mother, are forced to move in with their grandparents' at the family's mansion. Having been mysteriously struck from her wealthy father's will for reasons known only to her and her parents, the children's mother hopes to win back her father's love and eventually claim her inheritance. But events take a bizarre turn when, at the house, the children find themselves hidden away, imprisoned under the supervision of their evil grandmother in a room adjoining the attic. Visited less and less frequently by their mother as times goes on, the children make a shocking discovery that will shatter their innocence forever.
At one time scheduled as a Wes Craven project, Flowers In The Attic was eventually directed by Jeffrey Bloom (Blood Beach) and features a chilling performance by Louise Fletcher as the children's tyrannical and uncaring grandmother. Co-starring alongside Kristy Swanson as her fictional siblings are Jeb Stuart Adams (Once Bitten; The Goonies), Ben Ryan Ganger (Ed Wood) and Lindsay Parker (Critters 2; Shocker). And eagle-eyed fans of the late Virginia C. Andrews should keep a look out for the source novel's author in a cameo as a window-washing maid.
