From the creators of the multi award-winning cult classic City of God, comes the long awaited return to the heart of Rio's unforgiving slums. Two friends negotiate the pitfalls of adulthood against a background of turmoil and violence in City of Men, available to rent from 12th January and buy from 23rd February 2009 from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
Produced by Oscar® nominated director Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Constant Gardener) and directed by Paulo Morelli, the film takes us into the lives of Ace and Wallace, who battle to hold their friendship together amidst gang warfare and shocking revelations that threaten to drive them apart forever.
As the friends approach their 18th birthday, both are forced to confront the reality of adulthood and the problems of life in a favela. For Ace, this means trying to raise a young son and hold his marriage together against a backdrop of poverty and the dangers of everyday life; for Wallace, it means facing up to the truth about his absent father. But with a gang war raging in the streets involving Ace's cousin Midnight, the friends are unavoidably dragged into a fight to preserve their friendship and more importantly, their lives.
A gripping, intelligent drama from Miramax Films, City of Men is a must see for film fans everywhere and after a limited UK release, its release on DVD in 2009 provides a chance to view for those fans who may have missed it at the cinema. Be the first from 12th January.
