The Iron Lady (2011)
Thursday 22nd March 2012
Meryl Streep gives the performance of her career as the formidable Margaret Thatcher, winning the BAFTA, Golden Globe and Academy Award® for Best Actress in The Iron Lady, to be released on Blu-ray Double-Play and DVD on 30th April 2012 from Pathé Productions Ltd.
Painting an intimate portrait of Great Britain's first female Prime Minister, The Iron Lady takes audiences on the fascinating journey of the young grocer's daughter from Grantham, desperate to change the barriers of gender and class, charting her rise to power and the price that she ultimately paid.
The film reveals a surprising and intimate portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman, with scenes from the 1960's to the present day, including flashbacks of her younger years portrayed by newcomer Alexandra Roach. Interwoven into the heart of the film and bringing light relief is her loving relationship with Denis, portrayed by Jim Broadbent (Bridget Jones' Diary, Gangs of New York) and Harry Lloyd (Jane Eyre, Game of Thrones).
Directed by Phyllida Lloyd CBE (Mamma Mia!) and penned by award-winning British writer Abi Morgan (The Hour, Shame), The Iron Lady boasts a fantastic British cast including Richard E Grant (Withnail & I, Gosford Park), Olivia Colman (Tyrannosaur, Hot Fuzz) and Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Inbetweeners Movie).
The Blu-ray and DVD will captivate viewers with extra behind-the-scenes material, including fascinating featurettes on the filmmaking process from costume design to the script to screen process, as well as political explorations including 'Campbell on Thatcher' and 'Meet the Cabinet'.
