The Witness for the Prosecution (2016)
Monday 19th December 2016
A major new BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie's The Witness For The Prosecution from renowned screenwriter Sarah Phelps (Great Expectations, The Casual Vacancy) is set for a home entertainment release on 9th January 2017 courtesy of RLJ Entertainment's Acorn label, following its premiere on BBC One over the festive season.
Featuring a stellar all-star cast including Toby Jones (Detectorists, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Andrea Riseborough (Bloodline, National Treasure), Kim Cattrall (Sensitive Skin, Sex and the City), David Haig (The Thick Of It, Mo), Billy Howle (The Sense of an Ending, Cider with Rosie), and Monica Dolan (Appropriate Adult, The Casual Vacancy) and adapted from Agatha Christie's short story of the same name, the series reunites the team behind last year's critically acclaimed And Then There Were None.
It's 1920s London and society lady Emily French (Kim Cattrall) has been found brutally murdered in her luxury townhouse. When a young, handsome chancer, Leonard Vole, (Billy Howle) is accused of the crime, it seems like an open and shut case. His penniless solicitor, John Mayhew (Toby Jones), clings to the hope that Leonard's wife Romaine (Andrea Riseborough), an enigmatic chorus girl, will provide the alibi that can save his life; but she soon proves to be a far from reliable witness.
As Mayhew starts to connect with Leonard, his need to prove the young man's innocence becomes more than a professional obligation. But betrayed by his wife and with the odds stacked against him, all seems lost for Leonard until an accusation surfaces that could change everything.
This dark, gripping new two-part drama arrives on DVD 9th January 2017, alongside the Two By Christie DVD Box Set of The Witness For The Prosecution and And Then There Were None.
