Father Figure (2013)
Wednesday 16th October 2013
Created, written by, and starring comedian Jason Byrne, BBC One sitcom Father Figure is released on DVD on 28th October 2013, courtesy of 2entertain.
In this six part series, Jason Byrne plays family man Tom Whyte - a 40-something stay at home Dad who tries to be the best dad he can be to his two sons while his wife works full time. He's the best and worst dad you could have. He approaches his duties as a father with a huge dose of energy and enthusiasm, but his schemes and plans often descend into confusion and inevitably, bedlam ensues.
Father Figure also explores the other people in Tom's life - his long suffering wife Elaine (Karen Taylor) his interfering mother Mary (Pauline McLynn) and know it all father Pat (Dermot Crowley) not to mention his two young boys who are incessantly trying (and often succeeding) to get the better of their own Dad. Not forgetting his oft-present best friend Roddy (Michael Smiley) who has a complete aversion to common sense and the timid and uptight neighbours who are regularly on the receiving end of spectacular Whyte mishaps.
Now for the first time you can watch all episodes of Father Figure on DVD where we are fully immersed into the daily shenanigans of the Tom's life. Witness how utterly inept he is at DIY, his penchant for large chins and his utter dedication to self imposed rigorous house husband training with help from his mother, of course.
