Christopher and His Kind, released by ITV Studios Home Entertainment on 17th February 2011, tells the story of the young and wide-eyed Christopher Isherwood (Matt Smith, Doctor Who) who escapes the repressive society of 1930's Britain and arrives in the decadent and politically unstable world of 1930's Berlin. A time of a thriving cabaret scene, Christopher is submerged into a thrilling and intoxicating gay sub-culture and a journey of self-discovery.

Based on Isherwood's autobiography and adapted for the screen by acclaimed playwright Kevin Elyot, this bold new drama follows the life, love affairs and heartbreaks of middle-class Englishman, Christopher in 1930's Berlin.

We see Isherwood leave England and his mother Kathleen (Lindsay Duncan) behind for Berlin, as Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party are in ascendancy. We meet young actress and singer Jean Ross (Imogen Poots), who was to later provide him with the inspiration for the Sally Bowles character of Cabaret fame, and the peculiar Gerald Hamilton (Toby Jones), who inspired the title character in Isherwood's novel Mr Norris Changes Trains.

Other cast members include Wystan Auden (played by Pip Carter), the famous poet with a droll sense of humour who persuaded Christopher to join him in Berlin and Heinz (played by Douglas Booth), an unassuming street cleaner who Christopher meets and falls in love with during his time in Berlin.

Christopher and His Kind is one of the year's must-see dramas. Christopher Isherwood went on to write the novel A Single Man, recently adapted for the screen by Tom Ford starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore.
