Nim's Island (2008)
Wednesday 6th August 2008
Anything can happen on Nim's Island, a place where imagination runs wild and adventure rules. Surrounded by pristine white beaches and lush rainforests, follow the enchanting adventures of the young and feisty Nim Rusoe in this magical fantasy film. Based on the popular children's novel of the same name, by award winning children's author Wendy Orr, and directed by husband and wife team Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett, Nim's Island is out to own on DVD from 25th August 2008 courtesy of Universal Pictures.
The captivating tale includes a star studded cast headed up by Oscar® winning Jodie Foster (The Silence of the Lambs) in a rare comic turn as Alexandra Rover, heartthrob Gerard Butler (P.S. I Love You) in a dual role as Nim's real father and valiant fictional idol Alex Rover and not forgetting Academy Award® nominee Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) as Nim. Nim is a spirited young girl inspired by legends and books, leading an amazing tropical existence with her scientist dad Jack (Gerard Butler). Located on a remote island in the South Pacific they are joined by a whole host of animal companions, namely Selkie the Sea Lion, Fred the Bearded Dragon, Chica the Turtle, and Galileio the Pelican!
However, all is not calm in paradise when Nim's idyllic world gets turned upside down after her dad goes missing at sea. In her panic, Nim reaches out to her favourite literary hero Alex Rover. But what Nim doesn't know is that the acclaimed author of the Rover books is, in fact, Alexandra Rover (Jodie Foster), a retiring, fainthearted recluse locked away in a big city apartment in San Francisco. As Alexandra musters up the courage and nervously ventures forth into the world (with a little assistance from her fictional alter-ego, also played by Butler) and Nim faces the biggest challenge of her exciting young life, they must both draw courage from the fictional gallantry of Alex Rover, and find strength in one another to save Jack and Nim's Island.
An adventure comedy, Nim's Island is about becoming the hero of your own story - as a girl who thought she was alone and a grown woman who thought she was scared of the world discover they can be so much more than they ever dreamed.
