The rules of the Death Race are simple: Win five events and you are set free. Lose and you are road kill splashed across the Internet. Welcome to Terminal Island, sometime in the very near future. The world's hunger for extreme sports and reality competitions has grown into reality TV bloodlust.
Death Race is the most extreme racing competition on earth where murderous prisoners become drivers fighting a gladiatorial battle to the death. Starring all-action superstar Jason Statham (The Transporter series, The Bank Job) get ready for the ride of your life as you enter this gritty corrupt underworld packed with tricked-out cars, caged thugs and smoking-hot babes combining to create a juggernaut new TV series with dire consequences.
Joan Allen (The Bourne Ultimatum, Face/Off) leads an outstanding supporting cast including Tyrese Gibson (Transformers, 2 Fast 2 Furious), and the gorgeous Latino newcomer Natalie Martinez who plays Elizabeth Case, one of the gorgeous female navigators at the disposal of the Death Race drivers
Three-time speedway champion Jensen Ames (Statham) is an ex-con who suddenly finds himself framed for a gruesome murder he did not commit. He is given an easy choice by Terminal Island's ruthless Warden Hennessey (Allen): Suit up and drive or never see his little girl again. Forced to don the mask of the mythical driver Frankenstein, a crowd favorite who seems impossible to kill, he embarks an insane three-day Death Race challenge in order to gain freedom.
But to claim the prize, Ames must survive a gauntlet of the most vicious criminals - including nemesis Machine Gun Joe (Gibson) - in the country's toughest prison. Trained by his coach (Ian Mcshane of Deadwood, The Golden Compass) to drive a monster Mustang V8 Fastback outfitted with 2 mounted mini-machine guns, flamethrowers and napalm, Ames is an innocent man who must destroy everything in his path to win the most twisted spectator sport on Earth
Writer/Director Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil series, AVP: Alien vs. Predator) re-imagines Roger Corman's classic Death Race 2000 for the big screen with this explosive action-packed thriller rammed with gruesome thrills and spectacular action and special effects sequences. The DVD is loaded with awesome extras Making of, The Stunts and Commentary from Director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt.
