Comedy genius Will Ferrell (Elf, Anchorman, Talladega Nights) is on the ball once again in Semi-Pro, an outrageous comedy set in 1976 against the backdrop of the maverick ABA - a fast-paced, wild and crazy basketball league.
Fresh from its £2 million UK box office gross, Semi-Pro is released to rent on 9th June and to buy on 16th June 2008. The retail version will be available in three separate editions - single disc, double disc and Blu-Ray. The two disc version is crammed with great bonus material including six behind-the-scenes featurettes; a music video, "Love Me Sexy"; seven hilarious deleted and alternate scenes; Flint Tropics Hot Talk with "Dick Pepperfield"; theatrical trailer and teaser trailer.
Starring alongside Ferrell are a host of well-known faces including Woody Harrelson (TV's Cheers, Natural Born Killers, The People vs. Larry Flynt, No Country For Old Men), Maura Tierney (TV's ER, Forces of Nature, Liar Liar, Insomnia), Will Arnett (TV's Arrested Development, Blades of Glory, Ice Age 2: The Meltdown) and André Benjamin (one half of the acclaimed, multi-platinum selling music duo Outkast).
It's 1976 and the only thing sexier than Jackie Moon (Ferrell) is his incredible career. The owner, head coach and star player of the Flint Tropics - not to mention the smooth vocals behind hit single "Love Me Sexy" - Jackie is at the top of his game. But then disaster strikes. The NBA announces a plan to merge with the ABA and take with them only the four teams with the best records, disbanding the rest of the ABA squads forever.
Jackie, assisted by former NBA benchwarmer Monix (Harrelson) and flamboyant Clarence "Downtown" Withers (Benjamin), decides to rally his motley team for an unlikely eleventh-hour pursuit of acceptance and glory. Unfortunately, the Flint Michigan Tropics is just about the worst team in the league. If they want to survive, Jackie and his boys must now do the seemingly impossible - win.
