Starring acclaimed Country and Western singer Tim McGraw in his first leading role, and promising, up and coming actress Alison Lohman (Big Fish, Matchstick Men and White Oleander), Flicka tells the heart-warming and rights-of-passage story of 16 year old, horse-loving Katy McLaughlin (Lohman). Flicka, based on Mary O'Hara's beloved novel My Friend Flicka, is available on DVD from 6th August 2007 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
Katy dreams of fulfulling her family legacy by working on her father's (McGraw) ranch in Wyoming. But he wants more for his daughter, insisting that Katy go to college despite her failing grades and lack of interest. When Katy finds a wild mustang, she names her Flicka and they form a breakable bond. Katie is determined to tame her and to make her a riding horse. However, Flicka is not so keen - she has as much disdain for authorty as her owner and Flicka is not about to give up her freedom without a fight. Flicka and Katie are more alike than Katie could ever have imagined.
Flicka follows the struggling McLaughlin family who have all reached a major crossroads in their lives. Katy's father is considering selling the ailing ranch; her brother Howard (Ryan Kwanten) wants to leave Wyoming for college in Boston and mum, Nell (Maria Bello) is fighting to keep her family from falling apart. Can Katy ultimately tame her beloved Flicka - which means 'beautiful young girl' in Swedish - and help to restore calm and order into the chaotic lives of her adored but troubled familly?
