Keira Knightley (Atonement, Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Pride and Prejudice) and Michael Pitt (The Village, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, TV’s Dawson’s Creek) star in the passionate and turbulent love story, Silk, arriving on rental on 3rd March 2008 and retail DVD on 17th March 2008 from Entertainment In Video

Based on the much loved, best-selling novel by Alessandro Baricco, this lush, strikingly beautiful epic spans two continents as it tells the story of a married French smuggler whose perilous and solitary travels lead him into a strange and captivating new world.  Directed by acclaimed film maker Francois Girard (the Academy Award®-winning The Red Violin, Thirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould), Silk also stars Alfred Molina (The Da Vinci Code, Spider-Man 2, Chocolat) and Koji Yakusho (Babel, Memoirs of a Geisha).

The year is 1862 and a crisis in the European silk industry sees French merchant’s emissary Hervé Joncour (Michael Pitt) despatched to Japan to procure the disease-free silkworm eggs that will allow for his town’s economic survival. This journey, by carriage, train, ship, caravan and horseback, takes him to a small Japanese village where the warlord in charge, Hara Jubei (Koji Yakusho), agrees to sell him eggs and introduces him to his beautiful concubine (Sei Ashina).

This and subsequent journeys to Japan bring great wealth to Hervé’s village, but, with each return to the Far East, he becomes increasingly tempted by Jubei’s sensuous concubine. Quickly he becomes torn between the ideals and comfort of his devoted wife at home and the mystery and beauty of a new love halfway around the world.
