Rescue Dawn

"Christian Bale is phenomenal" 4 stars - Total Film

From internationally acclaimed director Werner Herzog comes an incredible and mind-blowing true story of one man’s survival against overwhelming odds. Starring Christian Bale and Steve Zahn, Rescue Dawn is released to buy and rent on DVD on 7th April 2008 from Pathé Distribution Ltd.

Dieter Dengler (Bale; Batman, The Machinist, Harsh Times), is a U.S. fighter pilot sent on a top secret mission air-raiding the jungles of Laos during the Vietnam War. However, an air ambush forces him to crash land on unknown terrain, and he is captured by the notoriously ruthless Pathet Lao soldiers.

After a shocking initial ordeal, he is taken to a small Laotian prison camp, where he meets two American soldiers already held captive for a stultifying two years – both nearly broken in spirit. Duane (Zahn; Sahara, Shattered Glass) can only recommend keeping quiet to stay alive, while the barely sane "Gene from Eugene" (Jeremy Davies; Secretary, Dogville) insists they are all about to be released any minute now. However, something inside Dieter refuses to give up and he plans a last-gasp bid for freedom through the dangerous jungles of South-East Asia.

Critically acclaimed, Rescue Dawn is one of the most remarkable adventures in modern history, with a heart-stopping and gripping climax. A blistering adventure and a stark epic of survival, Rescue Dawn reveals how Dieter Dengler relied on the most primal qualities of evasion, endurance, tenacity and courage to try and make his way home. The DVD is packed with special features including an audio commentary by director Werner Herzog and interviewer Norman Hill, five featurettes and seven deleted scenes. Don’t miss your chance to experience this thrilling and gripping true story on DVD this April.
