Les Miserables

Network is proud to announce the release of Les Miserables (PG) on DVD to buy on 11th February 2008. It is a lavish adaptation of Victor Hugo’s literary masterpiece, by an inspirational cast, RRP £12.99.

Jean Valjean (Richard Jordan – Logan’s Run), a young, impoverished woodcutter is harshly sentenced to nine years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread, even though the bread is stolen with the intention of feeding his unfortunate and starving family.

Consumed by rage and the desire for revenge upon his release, Valjean encounters a saintly bishop, who not only delivers him from another possible imprisonment, he also convinces Valjean to start using his strength and intelligence for the good of the world. Despite his effort to do good, Valjean remains a man haunted by his past in the form of ice-cold Inspector of Prisoners, Javert (Anthony Perkins – Psycho), who is determined to hunt him down and lock him up for good…

Ably directed by Glenn Jordan (Barbarians at the Gate), this adaptation is also supremely served by an immensely talented cast, with Anthony Perkins ruthless and pitiless as Javert. Les Miserables is a keen observation of the history of France, politics, moral, philosophy, justice, love etc. Filmed on sumptuous locations throughout France and Europe, this production is not simply an efficient adaptation of one of Victor Hugo’s best known works, it is also an unmissable visual feast.
