Based in LA this film follows ex-con Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) and his gang planning and executing one of their most daring heists, to raid one of LA’s banks. But after an armoured truck robbery goes wrong the group comes to the attention of Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) and his team of detectives, and their surveillance activities make planning the robbery very difficult for McCauley. |

The film has a large array of characters and each character has been given depth and their own mini story line, which is one of reasons for the film’s long running time as each characters sub plot is explored. However the long running time of the film is not noticeable as you are watching it, as the plot remains interesting throughout. |
| Pacino and De Niro (who have only appeared together before in Godfather 2) play their parts well, and there is an understated tension when the two men meet in a café. The film also sports a vast array of stars in the supporting cast, all of which play their part well. |
| Ex-SAS Andy McNabb acted as a technical consultant on this film, lending his expertise to scenes such as the bank robbery shoot out. This shines through as the bank scene can easily be classed one of the best shoot out scenes I’ve seen. The picture quality is very good and the sound is superb, the surround emerges you in the middle of a LA street with police firing on either side. |
| For such a remarkable film, and remarkable cast, it is just a shame that Warner didn't even bother to provide any extras what-so-ever, not even the trailer. |
